Washington, DC, October 4: As she prepares for the release of her memoir, former First Lady Melania Trump has expressed her support for abortion rights, presenting a view that contradicts her husband’s stance. He has taken credit for the Supreme Court’s ruling that removed the constitutional right to abortion, according to CBS News.

"Individual freedom is a fundamental principle that I safeguard," Melania stated in a video shared on social media on Thursday.

Her memoir, titled "Melania," is set to be published in the US on Tuesday.

"There is no room for compromise when it comes to this essential right that all women possess as part of individual freedom — What does 'my body, my choice' really mean?" she wrote on X.

Former President Trump's fluctuating opinions during his presidential campaign have frustrated those advocating for a national ban on abortion.

The US presidential elections are scheduled for November 5 this year.

Trump’s appointment of three justices to the Supreme Court led to the overturning of Roe v. Wade in 2022, allowing 22 states to implement restrictions on abortion access, as reported by CBS News.

According to Trump, the decision about what constitutes an abortion should be left to the states, claiming that "this is what everybody wanted from a legal standpoint."

The issue has left Republicans politically vulnerable, as polls indicate that most Americans support legalizing abortion in all or most circumstances.

In 2022, the conservative-dominated Supreme Court rescinded a significant ruling that upheld abortion rights, inciting anger among women’s rights advocates and Democrats.

Since the federal guarantee of abortion rights was revoked, numerous Republican-led states have enacted bans and imposed substantial restrictions on access to the procedure.

Over the past two years, Democrats have utilized abortion rights and reproductive freedom to criticize Republicans.
